Currently, YOM offers 97 training courses under 6 major training categories. The major course categories include Project Management (PM), Research Methods, Data Management and Analysis (DMA), Modeling (MOD), Micro- and Macro-Economic Analysis and Policy (ECON), Financial Sector Management and Enterprise Development (FSM), and Geographic Information Systems& Remote Sensing (GIS).

In order to expand its range of training services and better meet the specific needs of its stakeholders, YOM offers a variety of tailor-made training courses, both by own capacity and in collaboration with other education and training organizations. The course contents are flexible based on the demands of customers. With years of experience in the field of education and training, YOM also provides capacity building support to other training institutions.

Training courses are available in three levels: beginners, intermediate and advanced formats, and the nature of which vary depending on the course types.

YOM comprises a team of highly educated young as well as experienced professors at YOM and those teaching at prestigious international and national universities having several published works in well-cited peer-reviewed international journals, presented at high-level conferences and with a good reputation in a number of consultancies works in different parts of the world. YOM’s partnership with other Universities and Research Institutes also allows the pooling of renowned professors whenever the need arise.

Training is scheduled for Five Consecutive Days from Monday through Friday. The minimum number of trainees expected in one session is 20. However, there is flexibility consistent with our customers’ need.

Designing impact evaluation models necessitates considering the potential interactions and interdependence of program both at macroeconomic and household levels. Currently, there is a stronger push for a focus on equity in human development. This course provides Donors, their Partners, and Governmental and Civil Societies, including communities, on how to design and manage evaluations to assess the contribution of policies, programs, and projects to equitable development results for worst-off groups.

Monitoring and Evaluation in Result Based Management focus on higher level development results. This course provides the use of Logical Framework as the basis for the project design and establishes the quantifiable monitoring indicators against the objectives and measures the qualitative results against assumptions and risks. This course is designed to acquaint trainees with the state of the art approaches and techniques of conducting research in social sciences. The course has a strong emphasis on the practical challenges researchers face during the process of research and how to effectively overcome them. The training course covers the major steps involved in the research process, including but not limited to, the following topics:

  • methods for locating and collecting economic data,

This course is intended to provide trainees with a thorough understanding of core techniques of econometrics and learn how to apply them to test economic theories and quantify relevant factors for economic policy and other decisions. The main focus will be on the state of the art econometric methods that are useful to analyze different types and forms of data sets using the most popular and powerful econometric packages (SPSS and STATA), and on empirical applications that are relevant to policy questions. The course is tailored to beginner, intermediate and advanced levels; and has the following major areas of focus:

YOM delivers Modelling Course with comprehensive insight on CGE Model (Computable General Equilibrium Model) and SAM (Social Accounting Matrix). The course begins with a simple CGE formulation and extends to provide complex issues such as IFPRI and STAGE which are widely applied in the real world. In order to understand the basics of CGE modeling, the knowledge on GAMS and functional specifications which are applied in production, consumption, and goods flow will be very much helpful. The module, thus, has devoted in characterizing functional forms which are extensively used in CGE modeling and introduces the basics of GAMS using practical examples. It also extends to define and richly show how to construct as well as balance SAM. The SAM multiplier analysis and decomposition techniques have been also presented. The GAMS software and language are intensely exercised with lucid practical applications of different CGE models ranging from simple to very complex models.

In this dynamic world, countries are forced to introduce different economic policies whose likely impact ought to be examined before their actual implementation. To this end, CGE modeling and analysis are the most widely used tools to examine the impact of policies on the overall economy of a given nation. GAMS-CGE training package enables to give comprehensive insight about CGE modeling which capacitates trainees to conduct simulations and policy experiments. This training package entails the following key topics:

  • Assumption and Functions of Production, Commodity flow and Consumption in CGE modeling

Recent efforts on urban transport planning and management have focused on addressing the emerging challenges by applying the different tools and techniques so as to aid planning and make an effective decision. This course offers a practical application of GIS solutions in the Ethiopian urban context. Topics to be covered include:

  • Travel Demand Planning (Road Network, Network Maintenance & Updating)
  • Short Range and Long Range Planning (SRP & LRP)
  • Deficiency and Air Quality Analysis
  • Resources Allocation
  • Case Studies from Ethiopia and elsewhere

At present, YOM finalized providing a three-month training jointly with the Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (ASTU). The trainings are under the titles of:

The training program is designed with the aim of enhancing the skills of project managers to plan, implement, manage and lead complex project in a dynamic and diverse environments using state-of–the-art methods and techniques. The training is also expected to boost University-Industry linkage.
